St. Vincent: wonderfuly wild
Wild and pristine: St. Vincent is home to the Black Caribs. The origins of this mysterious tribe are obscure. A ship carrying slaves from Africa is said to have shipwrecked on the island’s reefs, and the blacks to have mixed with the native Carib Indians. Even today they keep up their traditions, and mainly live of fishing along the coastline. Much of the heartland is still covered with tropical forest reaching right up to the volcano summits. Small wonder then that Hollywood’s film-makers chose one of St. Vincent’s hidden bays as the main film location of “Pirates of the Caribbean”. The scenery of “Port Royal” can be admired in Walilabou Bay, just as Johnny Depp left it…
